What this site is

minute.ly is a publication about AI, video technology and the tools used to work with video and audio. We publish articles, guides and reference material. That is the entire service: there is nothing to sign up for, nothing to buy here, and no account to create.

Our content is information, not advice

Everything we publish is general information. It is not professional advice, and it is not tailored to your situation, your business or your legal obligations.

We write carefully and we say where techniques stop working, but you should not treat an article as a substitute for your own testing or for advice from someone who knows your circumstances. Decisions you make about your own systems, content or business are yours.

We may describe products, prices, commission rates and features that change after publication. We check them when we write and we do not re-check them continuously. Always confirm current terms with the provider before relying on them.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you follow one and go on to buy something, we may earn a commission. This costs you nothing.

We operate affiliate programmes for products in our own network, and we link to them in our writing. Those relationships are disclosed on our publisher page, which sets out the actual commission terms rather than describing them vaguely.

A commercial relationship does not buy coverage or a favourable assessment. Where we recommend something we say why, and where a tool has limits we say what they are. If that ever stops being true, the writing is worthless and so is the commission.

Using the site

You may read, link to, quote and share what we publish. When quoting, please attribute it and link back to the original.

You may not:

  • Republish our articles in full, or in substantial part, as your own
  • Use automated systems to scrape the site in a way that degrades it for others
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its server or its database

The articles, guides and design of this site are ours, or used with permission, and are protected by copyright. The minute.ly name and logo are ours.

Nothing here grants you a licence to our content beyond ordinary reading, linking and fair quotation. If you want to reproduce something substantial, ask us — we are usually happy to say yes.

Third-party names, trademarks and products mentioned on this site belong to their respective owners, and mentioning them does not imply any endorsement of us by them.

Anything you send us

If you email us a correction, a suggestion or an idea, we may act on it, including publishing a correction or writing about the topic. We will not treat unsolicited material as confidential unless we have agreed to in advance, and we do not owe compensation for an idea we were sent unprompted. Do not send us anything confidential that you are not free to share.

Other people's sites and tools

We link out constantly, because that is what useful writing does. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content, their availability or their handling of your data, and a link is not an endorsement of everything a site does.

Availability

We try to keep the site up, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability. We may change, move or remove content, restructure URLs or take the site down entirely without notice. Where we retire a page we generally redirect it rather than break the link, but we do not guarantee that any particular URL will keep working.

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all warranties, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or business opportunity, arising out of your use of this site or your reliance on anything published on it.

This site is provided free of charge. You pay us nothing to read it, and the limited liability we accept for it reflects that. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the minimum permitted by law.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. In Hong Kong the Control of Exemption Clauses Ordinance (Cap. 71) restricts how far liability may be excluded, and these terms are subject to it. If you are a consumer, nothing here affects the statutory rights you have under the law of your own country.

Indemnity

If your use of the site in breach of these terms causes a third party to bring a claim against us, you agree to indemnify us for the reasonable costs of dealing with it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, and the courts of Hong Kong have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them or from your use of this site.

If you are a consumer resident outside Hong Kong, this does not deprive you of the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections available to you under the law of the country where you live.

General

  • If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
  • Not enforcing a term on one occasion does not waive our right to enforce it later.
  • These terms, together with our privacy policy, are the whole agreement between us about the site.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised version.
